Comments on Benjamin Franklin's appreciation and gratitude trait

"Notice the blessing in everything, big and small. Dwell on the beauty in all I see, hear, touch, taste and smell. Realize that everything is a gift from the Almighty and is put there in order to enjoy and learn from" (Benjamin Franklin).

This advice on appreciation and gratitude is Benjamin Franklin's first self mastery trait among the thirteen he developed during his lifetime. Personally, I don't know whether or not the author left some insights in relation with the outcomes attached to this advice, except the enjoyment and learning he states to be  the purpose of everything. But, one thing is sure, a deep understanding of this subtile idea is necessary in order to grasp its profound meaning. Otherwise, you would focus only on the visible part of the iceberg and completely miss the hidden and most important one.

When looking closely at this formula, it seems to gather most of the ingredients known today by almost the entire globe to be necessary in order to make the law of attraction work for you and not against you, although, as far as I know, the author didn't specifically refer to this law in his advice.

For me, this is a very powerful formula that, if applied systematically by anyone, can unlock in any area the doors of succees which, from my point  of view, means first to overcome the ego with all its demands. Second, success is also about being resistance free and totally in peace and loving, no matter how threatening or challenging the illusory environment you live in could appear in the dream you call life. That is what success means to me in the first place. It's about self mastery and die while you live; no more no less.

The first advice given by the author in this formula is to "notice the blessing in everything, big and small"; why? Let's try to look more closely at the idea and attempt to understand its profound meaning, always from our personal point of view which, anyway, could not be shared by many people and even by the author himself.

To begin, it is known that what you like, you appreciate and what you don't, makes you prefer and chose something else. In other words, without what you dislike, you wouldn't prefer something different. The teachings or Abraham refer to this as being the contrast whose purpose is to serve you and help you chose what you really want by exclusively focusing your attention on it and no longer on what you don't want. Isn't this true? And isn't it a sufficient reason to consider what you disliked before as a blessing to appreciate and be greateful for finally?

Notice also that concerning everything in this first advice, reference is made to big and small and not to good and bad. Why is that? When you see only the blessing in small things and are grateful for them constantly and consistently, due to the law of attraction, you begin to attract more and more things you are grateful for. In addition, when you pay attention and appreciate the smallest quality anyone or anything may present despite all their defaults, they change positively from your perspective.

Wayne Dyer is right when declaring that "when you change the way you look at things (appreciation, gratitude and love), the things you look at change also". It's like bringing a spark of light into a dark room. And the fact is that not only what you perceive changes, but you begin to change also in your state of mind. That's the truth!

So, you don't have to wait for big things to happen in order to be grateful, because big things don't come every day. But, little ones do almost every split second if you pay attention carefully to everything in your present environment. Thus, only small things will make the law of attraction work consistently for you. Now, when big ones come, your gratitude increases even more.

It's important to note also that, in fact, true gratitude precedes everything we could experience with our physical body, considering that we are not really our body first, but spiritual  beings. In this regard, true gratitude is first about our direct relationship with the Father. It's our connecting link with God, in response to His uncontional love for His Son (human kind), for Who We Really Are.

Now, why didn't the author refer to good and bad? The fact is that if he did, this would have created resistance among lots of people not ready yet for this kind of truth. Who would easily accept without resistance the idea that the bad condition in front of them can at the same time include the good? Wouldn't it be pure nonsense for most people?

Therefore, in order to avoid this useless resistance, to which the teachings of Abraham refer also as being the source of most of our trouble in life, the author, I assume, deliberately didn't make any mention about good and bad.

The second advice in this idea to "dwell on the beauty in all I see, hear, touch, taste and smell" is the process that helps you attract and manifest what you prefer and chose in everything using your imagination in the laboratory of your mind. In effect, every condition or situation you perceive is like a coin with its two faces, and what you get back depends on which face you focus your attention on.

In imagination when you dwell on the beauty in all you see, hear, touch, taste and smell, your five physical senses become so involved in the process in such a way that no difference exists between what you imagine and the objective reality. You start really believing that you have received what you chose and it has to manifest.

Also, the fact that you focus only on the positive aspect or dwell only on the beauty in every perception helps you release the resistance you would have experienced in your experience if it was the opposite.

"Realize that everything is a gift from the Almighty and is put there in order to enjoy and learn from" is another advice in this idea of appreciation and gratitude and suggests that even desires are part of everything. As such, they must be enjoyed like their manifested form and, in my opinion, even more.

Desires are like seeds, for which you must take care of and give all your attention, so that they may grow, expand and manifest in the physical form. When you have a desire, it is an indicator that what you want is already yours. Therefore, you should be grateful and joyful first at this stage, before manifestation occurs. Doing so, "you believe that you have received" and it would manifest soon or later. Therefore, don't wait for manifestations to occur in order to be grateful. Gratitude must come first and later, you could finally learn from experience, when time comes.

It is important to emphasize that joy, as such, is not limited only to human beings. It is extended to God Himself, Who is the bank of joy, happiness, all our good experiences and in Whom all this is amplified unlimitedly. All of us, without exception, contribute to the credit of this bank just as cells  in the body participate to the quality of our state of mind and our experiences of joy, peace, love, etc. Human kind, therefore, looks like a community of cells in the ultimate experience of life or God.

So, when we play our role as designed by God, our creator, we contribute effectively to this ultimate and unlimited experience of joy and, doing so, we get interests in our personal account and feel good in return. And, the more we contribute and get interests in our account of joy, the more we are joyful and feel good.

But if we don't contribute enough, even the little joy that was available for us is taken away (parable of talents in the bible). As a result,  we cannot feel good and receive our share from the bank of abundance, peace, joy, happiness, love and wealth all available available for us, but that we deprive ourselves most of the time due to our ignorance.

Three reminders for dealing with occurences

Whatever may happen to you in life, always keep in mind the following:

I - GOD LOVES YOU

1- His love for you is unconditional and eternal;
2- Everything is a blessing and comes for your highest good, as it is an opportunity to learn and to grow;
3- In this order, you must return your love to God, in the form of gratitude and appreciation for everything.

II - YOU ARE HERE TO GET BACK HOME

1- That is your main purpose, and it is achieved through forgiveness; forgiveness of yourself, of others, and everything;
2- But, resistance to what is, is the principal enemy you would ever have to overcome. So, never give room to it;
3- Always, manifest gratitude and appreciation  for whatever pops up in your life, without judging  it as "bad" or whatever.

III - ONLY GOD IS

1- Loose yourself. You don't have an individual or separate life, apart from God. God is All That Is, and nothing exists out of Him. You suffer only because you resist, and you resist because of your attempts to separate yourself from the Whole, which is other people, events and circumstances, forgetting that if the branch separates itself from the tree, it dies.
2- Therefore, become One with everybody and everything. That way, you no longer separate yourself from the Whole (God) and will not feel poor, abandoned, alone or powerless again. Because you now understand that your neighbor, your colleague, your mate,  the "stranger" in the street and yourself, are One and only One being.

Also, you no longer run after anything, as you realize that what belongs to others is yours, also. So, you feel and express gratitude for others's blessings, instead of jealousy, knowing that like this, you will experience them in return.Because you would have finally understood that all the branches of one single tree share the same sap.

It will be done onto you according to your faith

It will be done onto you according to your faith. This eternal truth in the holy scriptures has been repeated over and over since centuries and is still accurate today.Simply put, the meaning you give to anything in your life will be your reality.

It is for this same reason Christ advised to not judge anything. "Judge not", he said, for whatever judgement you will give to any event or circumstance will turn out to be your personal reality. Because your judgement then becomes a decision that produces effects. We had already discussed this issue in the past. But I think it is worth coming back on this important question which is in direct relationship with the way we create our life.

The point where I'd like to get is the following. As you are going into a certain experience in your life, particularly the one you judge as "bad", pay attention to what you think and how you feel presently about it. Because, as stated earlier, your outcomes  will be in direct proportion with what you believe, and the way you think and feel.

There is one thing to keep in mind, always. It is that God loves you and everything you experience is for your highest good. From this postulate, only give positive meanings to everything and see whatever you experience as a blessing, because it is, indeed.

The advantage of this technique is that not only will you neither no longer feel bad and negative about yourself, nor see yourself as a victim, powerless, not enough, limited, guilty, separated from God and so on, but chances are that what was previously perceived as "bad" experiences will turn out to be very positive ones as well as blessings in your life.

Benjamin Franklin, one of the greatest american thinkers put it well in one of his personal mastery traits with this advice: "notice the blessing in everything, big and small, dwell on the beauty in all I see, hear touch, taste and smell. Realize that everything is a gift from the Almighty and is put there in order to enjoy and learn from".

Once again, the meaning you give to whatever you experience is up to you, and will become your personal reality, not only inwardly, but externally also. In this lifetime, everyone of us has his particular lessons to learn, in particular circumstances. That explains why our birth conditions are not the same. We were not born in  same countries, in same families, or with the same color.

There had never been a competition of any kind, or a contest from which winners got the reward to be born in specific countries and in specific conditions. Therefore, demonstrating pride for being a citizen of  one specific country, for ones appartenence in such or whatever, are pure ignorance. Even worse, this mental attitude would take you far away from your purpuse, which is to learn during this life time, and delay your personal evolution.

Being "rich" or "famous" in this world is not a gratification or a reward you receive in recognition of a personal performance or achievement  in some discipline. Just as being "poor" or suffering from a grave "disease" is not a sort of punishment due to some bad deeds in the past. Those are merely conditions we all go through in one moment or another in the cycle of  life, to enable us to learn what is to be learn in our process of evolution.

Those who are rich and famous today had already lived in different conditions and will again go through many others in the cycle of their existence. The same thing is true for those who are considered as poor today. It is sometimes amazing to see people telling others proudly how they got where they are, in terms of acquisitions, fame, or wealth as if at the level of ego, they were totally in charge of their apparent success.

The truth is, those people don't even have a clue themselves how they got where they currently are. They have only an idea of what can be perceived on the surface of the conscious mind which, as known today, represents a very tiny and insignificant part of human being consciousness, unlimited and including the subconscious and the superconscious.
Today, everybody wants to be rich and famous and no one wants to be poor, because material "poverty" is seen as something "bad". But, who really knows the purpose of this apparent misery? Who reaches a clear understanding of the deep meaning and the profound wisdom hidden behind these particular conditions against which the entire planet is fighting?

If being poor was such a hideous condition, why did Buddha left the comfort of his fathers' palace, for this condition in which he finally found enlightenment? Why did Jesus refuse the riches of the world  proposed  by the devil or ego to him?

Can you imagine a world in which everybody is rich and famous? In such a world, who will be doing what for whom? In other words, who then will be the master and who will be the servant? Who will be applauding the other? Who will be the teacher and who will be the student? And if everybody gets rich, what value will have money again?

You should thing about it. The relative value money has today is simply due to the fact that almost 4/5 of the population is "poor". Now, invert the tendency, and the richest men of the world will become anonymous, maybe like you in this moment.

Somenone  is called "rich", only because another is called "poor". There is neither superiority nor inferiority in that, because both are just two sides of the same coin; learning different lessons from different perspectives. It is just like that.

You see, nothing is really as you imagine, or as you perceive it. You are absolutely a perfect son of God, living now certain conditions in this life time. I can assure you, there is nothing "good" nor "bad" in those conditions; just lessons to learn from them.

However, the best way to live these conditions, particularly the "bad" ones that almost everybody wants to avoid, is through understanding, based on the knowledge that underneath each  circumstance lies a lesson, and a blessing, whose sole purpose, when discovered, is to help you evolve a step further, on your path to your spiritual realization.

Enjoy the journey!

God loves you unconditionally and eternally
For this reason, He placed you in a friendly universe
That cooperates with you all the time and in which
Everything is a blessing
And is there for your highest good

To His beloved Son
A loving Father wouldn’t give a snake
When asking for a piece of bread

You don’t have a clue what’s going on
And don’t see things as they really are
So, judge not!
Only God knows the whole picture
Only God knows the truth about you

You are here only for one thing
To great and appreciate everybody and everything on your path all day long
Because the entire universe is a living thing and your friend
And to enjoy the journey of life
With gratitude and appreciation

That’s your part
That’s what is requested from you
And nothing else

It is not your business to find solutions to seemingly problems on the journey
Someone else more qualified takes care 24 hours a day
Trust Him blindly and let Him do His job
And remember that resistance in any form
Is strictly prohibited and totally useless

So, whatever could occur during the trip
Remember that there is absolutely nothing to fear
You are 100% safe for nothing can harm you

Again, you were not created to play a different role
Other than the one given you by your creator
It is to savour, appreciate and enjoy life with gratitude
All day long and wherever you are

So, trying to occupy the driver’s seat
Is the greatest mistake you could do
Never do that!
It will end only to unnecessary suffering, frustration, sorrow and despair

Fasten your seat bell
Release all resistance and relax
Faithfully, let go or let God (the pilot) operate

And savour every split second of your journey
Before game is over!

Everything that happens is for your highest good

Wanting to change a situation implies lack of love and understanding, which is translated by the level of resistance generated in us and by the willingness to escape from the thing that threatens us. But this resistance only gives more strength and reality to the situation, which is merely shadow and smoke, instead of making the deisired change happen .

Questions:
  • Why would you resist something or a situation you know nothing about?
  • If you believed that the unconditional love of God for you is true, that you are eternally blessed, safe and that everyhing that happens to you is for your highest good, would you resist them?
  • If you knew that all your sufferings and miseries are only the result of your wrong judgements and appreciations of what is, would you keep judging and suffering anyway?
The fact is, you have no clue about whatever is happening to you. But one thing is true, everything that comes your way is for one reason. It is because God loves you, and everything happening to you is for your highest good. That's the premiss you must bear in mind whatever you may be confronted with.

Having this mind, what would you do instead of resisting?
  • Forgiving yourself for judging and resisting what life has brought for you but seems disturb you.
  • Blessing and loving the situation, whatever it is, realizing it is here only for your highest good
  • Expressing gratitude to God for your safety and His unconditional love for you
  • Relaxing totally, and giving Him all trust and faith for all the outcomes of your life
  • There is much more you can do from this point, those being just some basic indications of where you can start from.

God's love for you is infinite in all thing

Beyond any situation you seem to dislike, and into which you have been driven by life, there is a profound gift for you. You would not be able to realize it yet, because of your false perception of reality. Nevertheless, a true blessing is there, waiting for you.

How do I know?

Merely by the fact that God loves you more than you would ever love yourself. And, because of that, nothing that comes to you would be there for another reason, but for your highest good. You believe, or you don't; there is no other choice.

Therefore, trying to change a situation that seems to bother you or escape from it is a refusal of the gift of God's for you, His love, lying behind it. But, it is not about changing the situation or escape from it. In fact, it is about going beyond it, and believe in what your physical sense cannot perceive.

That is the only thing you have to do, and nothing else. Whatever the situation may be, don't attempt to change it. You know nothing about it. How then could you attempt to change something you don't know what the objective is.

Assume that only God knows the truth about it. And, because He loves you unconditionally, just BELIEVE that whatever comes your way is for your highest good. You are blind and deaf, thus you know nothing about anything. Accept it without any physical proof. All this occurs on the planes you cannot see, and it does not have to be shown.

The only one truth is that God, your Father loves you. Anything that happens to you comes because of that. Therefore, love everything in your life, because everything "good" or "bad" is a messenger of God's love for you, as well as behind everything you perceive is God's perfect love, waiting for you.

Be glad and happy for your Higher Self, which, in this very moment, is sharing and savouring this infinite love with His Father. At the same time, be gentle and kind with the limited one you know here as you.

God’s love for you is infinite in all things -Part 2

Trying to change a situation externally is a denial of your responsibility. Remember that what you perceive is just a reflection, like in a mirror, of what you are. But you have projected it outside in others, events and circumstances to make them responsible.

Others, events and circumstances are just symbols of your culpability born of your apparent separation with God. The good news is that this separation didn’t really occur. Ego, however, wants you to believe that it did. Don’t believe it. You are innocent, like all your brothers.

Nothing you perceive is as you see it. Everything is part of the dream and, therefore, not real. Even what seems “good” is as unreal as what seems “bad”.

Don’t fall in the trap of the ego which would want you believe that something in this world could be real because it seems “good” to you. Be vigilant and know that both the “good” and the “bad” are of the same nature and therefore unreal.

When you come to this point, you realize that it is useless in this world to be unhappy for not getting something in the place of another; both being unreal.

So, instead of resisting any situation and trying with all your will and strength to change it from outside, the best attitude would be this one:

1) Gratitude and appreciation to the world, this giant mirror, for:
- The feedback given to you, informing you of what’s going on inside of you and giving you the opportunity to forgive, in order to awake from the dream, be free and get back home.
- Knowing that this world is just a dream, separation with God didn’t really happen. Therefore, the culpability I am projecting outside cannot be justified because I am sinless, innocent and eternally holy.
2) Forgiveness of everything, “good” or “bad”, as long as I am projecting my culpability outside; and forgiveness of myself for doing it.
3) Awake from the dream and get back home: Be fully conscious of my true
Nature, and nothing else.

Think about it...
And stay syncronized...

Why is it normal ?

You wake up in the morning and instantly jump on your feet, go to the bathroom, eat your breakfast, run to your office, etc.

Why do you assume it is normal ?

It is not !

Because while doing all these things, some people like you, cannot. Maybe they are ill sick, accidented, or disabled. The truth is, not everybody is lucky as you are. You do not realize it. That's why you think it is normal.

But, not only do you think so, you even ask for more. You do not appreciate how blessed you are. You are not grateful for your abundance. You do not even see it. No ! It is only what you think is missing in your life that you cherish. Not what you have. And the thing is, when you get it, you forget it !

How can you behave like that ? How can you love what you do not have yet, instead of what you hold in your hands, right now ?

Nonsense !

In addition, you worry for little things, such as bills, homes, cars, money, and so on. Do you think they are more important than you ? Do you think they have more value than the magnificant being that you are ?

What a pity !

Let me ask you something. Could you exchange your legs, your eyes, your hands, or any important organ of your body for those things ?

A normal person, surely, won't; even for all the stuff in the world. That means, nothing is more important than you.

Be grateful for your life, for your body, for your health, for your abundance, and for everything you now have. Forget totally what you do not have and never again worry about it.

When you make a list of all the blessings you have, right now, versus two or five things you think are missing in your life, you'll say to yourself :

All is well !
